The Myth of Magic
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (17 January, 1999)
Author: Adam Cole
Average review score:

An original concept in fantasy...finally
Adam Cole's THE MYTH OF MAGIC is a very entertaining, in-depth, and well thought-out first novel. The essence of the story is that magic, like storytelling or music, is something used for rituals and entertainment. It augments emotions, but does not do things such as cause people to turn into frogs or fly on broomsticks (Harry Potter fans will be disappointed, but the more discerning readers will enjoy this break from the cliché). The use of magic in this way is a metaphor for disciplines that have lost their favor in the public eye, or at least their mystique. The magicians are outcasts, not because they trade in the occult, but because they have devoted themselves to something archaic-not arcane. I see this as an allegory for certain religions, Judaism perhaps, as well as such archaic disciplines that we tend to adopt out of interest in beauty or the past. It certainly fits with any ethnic group that has been persecuted because of different beliefs or other traits that society finds unusual.
While the story is centered around the apprenticeship of a young boy, the novel is not a children's story. Parallel plots concern the politics of the town and involve adult characters whose motivations show humanity at its worst and best.
Cole's detailed description, lively dialogue, and sense of the symbolic enhances a unique and entertaining story. THE MYTH OF MAGIC is a piece of fantasy that is unusual in the best way. It is original, which is rare in this genre.

Authors: Yosuke Yamahata, Rupert Jenkins, Ansel Adams Center, Independent Documentary Group, and Mark L. Chambers

A grim reminder of the 'other' atomic bomb city
This compilation presents an extensive photographic record of the immediate aftermath of the bombing of Nagasaki with accompanying text. Published on the 50th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it shows the horrendous aftermath of the bombing through reprints of digitally restored negatives from pictures taken just a few days after the critical juncture in history. The photos are accompanied by bilingual text in Japanese and English, including an interview with the photographer, a work of fiction, and extensive biographical and chronological materials. The graphic contents may not be suitable for certain readers.

The Navarre Bible: St. Matthew's Gospel Texts and Commentaries

Average review score:

Wonderful Devotional Commentary
In this edition of St. Josemaria Escriva's project, much is given by way of critical commentary as well as devotional insight on the Gospel of St. Matthew. Sticking with the Church's ancient traditions regarding authorship, date, etc., the Navarre Bible provides a wonderful resource for living the spiritual life. A wonderful tool.

Great advice!
This book was an easy-to-read guide to what college freshmen can expect from their college experience. As a college student myself, I wish I would have read this book before my first year of college. Great advice!

Nelson in Love: An Adam Joshua Valentine's Day Story
Published in Hardcover by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (January, 1992)
Authors: Janice Lee Smith, Dick Gackenbach, and Laura Godwin
Average review score:

Fantastic book
I should admit at the start that my mother wrote this book, and that I am biased toward her work. This is the seventh book in the Adam Joshua series, and one of my favorites. This book, and the series, details the life of my sister and I, plus a variety of other characters. Despite the book being named "Nelson in Love," (Nelson is actually Scott, my best friend for the past 13 years) the book is actually about my first true love. At the time Mom was writing the book, I thought it was romantic that my love was being immortalized in print. After all the years of suffering through her publicizing my periods of thinking I was Superman and running around in a cape, and my fear of monsters, and even my fights with my sister, I was finally reaping the rewards. That lasted right up until the moment we broke up. By then the book was already at press, and it was too late to change the girl's name. Some day my children (her grandchildren) will ask who Heidi was. My mother's personal dedica

Never Out of the Hole: Tips and Tactics for Winning at Match-Play Golf

Authors: T. J. Tomasi, Mike Adams, Michael Corcoran, and Mike Corcoran
Average review score:

If You Play Match Play, You need this book
My Group of Friends and I have just started a Match Play Tournament and I purchased this book just in time to read before the tournament. I was giving up 5 and a half shots and still won my match 4 and 3. I credit this book with a lot of that success. The small things that you would never realize about strategy in Match Play are in this book, and so much more. You will not be disappointed.

The Nevis Company & Trust Laws
Published in Paperback by International Law and Taxation Publishers (April, 2000)
Author: Adam Starchild
Average review score:

Very solid and helpful information
It was very useful to finally have access to the current Nevis company and trust legislation. There are lots of summaries of the law available, but the full text of the actual statutes has not been generally available until this book. Now a tax planner can make his own decisions as to what is the best structure, and what legal options exist, and then ask a Nevis firm to implement the decision, instead of relying on high-priced advice from local firms, who often don't convey all of the details that a tax planner prefers to read for himself.
